ABOUT THE MASJID
Abu Ubaydah Islamic Center was recently established and can accommodate 150-200 people praying at a time. Abu Ubaydah Masjid helps people learn about Islam and how they can bring “Ahkam” (laws) of Allah SWT and Sunnah of Rasul Allah, Mohammad SAW, into their lives. Abu Ubayday Masjid invites and welcomes both Muslim and non-Muslim community members to come and learn about Islam. We are more than just a place of worship—we are a vibrant center for spiritual growth, community support, and lifelong learning. Our masjid is open to all who seek a space for prayer, reflection, and connection. With a focus on nurturing both the spiritual and social well-being of our members, we offer regular prayers, community events, and educational programs for all ages. Whether you are a long-time member or new to the area, you are always welcome here.
MISSION
Abu Ubaydah Masjid is committed to enhancing and promoting Islamic identity within the GTA community while honoring the rich cultural diversity of Canada. Our programs are designed to improve the skills, well-being, and spiritual growth of our members, creating a stronger, more connected community. We place a special focus on cultivating respect, understanding, and mutual support among all. Through these efforts, we strive to benefit not only our congregation but also the wider community around us.
HISTORY
The establishment of Abu Ubaydah Center began in 2002 when a small group organized a madrasa to teach children Islamic studies and assist with their schoolwork. What started in a modest warehouse was transformed into a fully functioning masjid, thanks to the $50,000 raised through Zancana Community Center and generous online donations. These funds allowed us to renovate the space, building new washrooms, a wudhu area, and a spacious prayer hall. We remain deeply grateful for the ongoing support that has allowed us to maintain and grow this vital community center.
MASJID’S GOALS
Abu Ubaydah Masjid has been officially registered under the Zancana Community Center since December 6th, 2018, with registration number 2812666925. As our current space is rented, we are working on an ambitious project to establish a permanent center that will cater to all our community’s needs. Our goal is to purchase and modify a dedicated facility to provide essential services in a more efficient and sustainable way.
To achieve this goal, Abu Ubaydah Masjid is actively seeking donors to continue the support of the project. We have launched monthly fundraising events to help raise the necessary funds, and we encourage those who attend these events to continue their generous contributions. In return, we will issue receipts that can be used to claim tax relief on your tax returns. Your support is vital to making this vision a reality.
